I worked with Jim in the Army (Augsburg) and convinced him to come out for Div. Artillery football in fall, 1960 in Munich. He was like a big brother to me (19 at the time) and played hard in every game. Sorry we lost track after the Army, but I have fond memories of him to this day!

Tim and I had such fun with Jim and you. He was a wonderful man to work with and for... he was so admired by many. Betty, I know you will be lost without him and that makes me really sad, you are a strong lady and you will go on with the help from your children and grandchildren. Tim and I are thinking of you, we are close by and will help in anyway we can....

I am saddened to hear this news and my thoughts and prayers are with the Surane family. Jim was a wonderful man who I both worked with, for and competed against over the years. There was never a time when he did not brighten the room and add energy to every person and situation he touched.
Jim treated everyone the same - from senior executives to the young people starting their careers, which was with genuine interest, enthusiasm and friendship. He was respected by everyone,
Oh, and could he ever tell a story! I enjoyed being reminded about the lion cubs - I heard that one 100 times and laughed harder each time he told it. And then there was the riding lawn mower episode on the shore of Lake Norman....
I know you will all miss him, but also that he leaves you all with so much love and great memories. The world is a better place because of Jim
