Jan Prettyman's Obituary
Jan Wall Prettyman, 86, of Huntersville, North Carolina died peacefully September 26, 2025, under the loving care of her daughters Kim Cook, Lisa Subasi and the staff at Huntersville Oaks and Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Cabarrus, to whom the family is deeply grateful.
Jan was born in Siler City, North Carolina to Nell F. Wassner and Monte Odell Wall, Sr. She lovingly cared for her sister, Dee Pearson, who preceded her in death.
Jan was an amazing woman who built a legacy of love, advocacy, and friendship. Her strength and determination took her from a young girl in rural North Carolina to a working woman in busy Miami, Florida. Education and advocacy were important to her. She became a domestic abuse counselor in Florida and when she returned to North Carolina. Her children and grandchildren fondly remember weekly visits to the library and family vacations to Key West, her favorite place to relax. Jan loved sweet tea and was an avid gardener. She was known for magically bringing plants back to life. She never met a stranger. You always felt special when you were talking with Jan.
Jan’s legacy of kindness continues through the gift of donating her body to science in Duke University’s Anatomical Gifts Program (https://medschool.duke.edu/about-us/anatomical-gifts-program) hoping that the knowledge gained will bring comfort, healing, and a better tomorrow for others.
She is survived by her family. Her daughters, Kimberly (Doug) Cook, Lisa Subasi and Jennifer (Ramon) Rodriguez. Her sons, Joseph (Christine) Atchison and John (Rachael) Pallas. Jan was a loving grandmother to Joskun Subasi, Zakeriya (Meaghan) Subasi, Margaret Cook, Trevor Atchison, Claire Atchison, and Ramon Rodriguez, IV. And loving aunt to her nephews, Sean, Scott, and Lance Pearson.
