Jane B. Shultz's Obituary
SHULTZ, Jane Bass died peacefully in her home on May 26, 2018. Born to Joseph Jennings Bass and Francis Hicks Bass on June 19, 1937. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Elizabeth Bass Pitchford. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Kirkwood T. Shultz; children K. Tanner Shultz, Jr. (Kelly), Carrie S. Crossfield (Robert), Kathryn S. Ransom (David), and Keren S. Hutchinson; grandchildren Caroline and Wyatt Shultz, Erik, Claire and Lillian Crossfield, Nora Ransom, and Ricky Hutchinson; and, niece and nephew, Judy Yeomans and Edward Pitchford.
Jane and Kirk met during their educations at Duke University as she was working in behavioral research. Jane was a very attentive wife and mother, guiding her family and many family friends in joyous fun around sailing, especially at Lake Norman Yacht Club. Many will recall the good times had at the yacht club and up and down the East Coast in the 'Big Green Bus.' Related to her sailing accomplishments, she served as President of the Highlander Class International Association for three years and was one of the only women to be awarded the J.S. Livingstone Service Award.
Jane was an avid college basketball fan and found great fun in cheering on her favorite Duke University Blue Devils. Friends and family had to schedule visits and calls around the game schedule during Final Four season.
Later in life Jane enjoyed sharing in the lives of her children through phone calls and visits, but especially family gatherings in her home. She always sought to provide love and comfort to all who entered her home.
Jane enjoyed supporting the Shriners Hospital in North Carolina, the American Humane Society, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The family is at peace knowing their beloved wife and mother has gone to her eternal home. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating to one of her favorite charities.
A celebration of life will be held June 1, 2018 at 5:30 pm at the Lake Norman Yacht Club clubhouse. 297 Yacht Road Mooresville, NC.
James Funeral Home is serving the family and condolences may be sent to the website at www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com.
