Jane Joyner Matthews' Obituary
Mrs. Jane Joyner Matthews, 87, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 and was reunited with the love of her life, Bob.
Jane was born in Nashville, NC. She was one of 15 children born to Ben and Estelle Joyner. Jane and her husband Bob, moved to Florida in 1960 where they remained until they retired. After retirement, they moved to Charlotte, NC for the remainder of their lives together. Jane enjoyed sewing for her family and others. She was an excellent seamstress and was sought out by many in her community for special occasions such as weddings and proms. She was an excellent bookkeeper and worked with a construction company owned by family friends until her retirement. Jane spent her spare time gardening and cooking/baking for family and friends. One of her most treasured memories was traveling to Europe with her husband after retirement. Jane was active in their church and loved spending time with family, including every event her grandsons were involved in. Jane and Bob were known as avid Florida State University fans. They spent many weekends traveling to Tallahassee for games and were thrilled when they became FSU grandparents when 2 of their 4 grandsons went there for college.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents (Ben and Estelle Joyner), and five of her fifteen siblings.
She is survived by her two daughters Cindy Michalik (Mark) of Clearwater, Florida, Joy Bland (Michael) of Charlotte, NC, four grandsons, Matthew (Courtney), Adam (Amber), Evan (Krista), Hayden, two great-granddaughters; Astor and Lenox, six sisters, 3 brothers and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 followed by a celebration of Jane's life beginning at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home.
