Janis Niessing's Obituary
Janis Merryman Gorman Niessing, 68, of Davidson died January 24, 2021 in Huntersville NC from complications related to Alzheimer's Disease. Jan was born in Baltimore, MD on March 13, 1952 to the late Edward and Jane Gorman, and grandaughter to the late Emily Alene Merryman Gorman.
Jan was a 1974 graduate of Mt St Agnes College / Loyola University in Baltimore. She was keen to follow a lifelong interest in colonial America. This interest led Jan to become a custom interpreter with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. She was privileged to live with her family in a reconstructed house within the Historic Area. Jan also worked for the Maryland Historical Society and the U.S. Health Care Finance Administration.
Survivors include her devoted husband Peter James Niessing; wonderful daughter, Moira Kate Clancy and husband Andrew (Drew) Clancy of Charlotte; grandchildren, Benjamin and Avery; and her brother Dr. E. Michael Gorman of San Francisco and brother-in-law Dr. Philip Rohrbough of San Francisco.
A memorial Mass will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 26 at St. Therese Catholic Church.
