Jeffrey Scott Owens' Obituary
Mr. Jeffrey (Jeff) Scott Owens, 69, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 23, 2017 at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, his life shortened by prostate cancer.
Jeff was born in Rutherford County and grew up in Forest City, North Carolina. He attended Forest City Elementary, grades one through eight and graduated from East Rutherford High School in 1966. Jeff attended Isothermal Community College before completing his studies in Atlanta, Ga at Career Academy School of Broadcasting. Then a career in radio included time at WBBO (Forest City), WCSL (Cherryville), WOHS (Shelby), WSPA AM FM TV (Spartanburg), and WXIK (Shelby). As a radio personality and program director, he won many awards including 5 gold records and 1 platinum record. Jeff took time off from his radio career to serve in the army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970. In 1980, Jeff’s Dad persuaded him to join him in his piano service business. Jeff was an accomplished Registered Piano Technician, a member of the Piano Technician’s Guild and the owner of Owens Piano Service.
Jeff is survived by his wife Tereasa Owens and their children; Christopher Hursey (Ksenia) of Charlotte, NC, Mat Owens of Cherryville, NC, and Julie Hill (Chris) of Bunnlevel, NC, grandchildren; Ula Hursey, Daniel Hursey, Jacob Hill, Chloe Hill, Haley Hill and Colton Hill, sister; Jennie Owens, father-in-law, Jimmy Wright (Betty), brother-in-law,Dale Wright (Sharon), sister-in-law, Donna Wall (Rick), nieces, nephews and many loving cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at James Funeral Home of Huntersville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday and also from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
