Jerry Sossamon's Obituary
Jerry Lee Sossamon, Sr., 79, of Cornelius, died February 4, 2016, at Novant Medical Center. He was born in Cornelius, NC on August 22, 1936, to the late Harvey K. and Fannie Deaton Sossamon. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He retired from Dillard Paper Company. Jerry loved to square dance and was a member of the Cornelius Cutups and the Mecklenburg Wild Life Club. He was inducted into the NC Callers Association Hall of Fame as well as the Metrolina Callers Association Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his wife Patty and daughter Sheri. Survivors include his daughter, Suzie Inman and husband Kenny of Cornelius; son, Lee Sossamon and wife Stephanie of Cornelius; and grandchildren, Jessica Johnson (Chris), Kelsey Fox (Andrew), Maya, Levi, and Alina Sossamon. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion U.M.C., 19600 Zion Ave., Cornelius, NC 28031. The memorial service will be held at 3 PM Monday, February 8, at Mt. Zion U.M.C. with Rev. Mary John Dye officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior in the church sanctuary.
