Jewell McConnell's Obituary
Jewell McConnell, 81, passed away on January 30, 2019. Jewell was born in Lincoln County September 19, 1937 to Roosevelt & Clara Perkins and lived there until her marriage to Perry McConnell on March 3, 1955. Perry and Jewell made Charlotte their home, raising four children, Brad, Lisa, Carrie and Jason. Jewell loved her family, which has grown to 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She loved her church family and was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and still sang in the choir. She loved her many friends and often hosted gatherings at her home for different events. Jewell was definitely known as the ultimate hostess! She kept a beautiful home for her and Perry and enjoyed cooking large, wonderful meals for all of us. Our family get togethers were frequent and fabulous thanks to “Mamaw” and she is the reason we have such a close bond to this day.
She will be forever missed by the love of her life, Perry, her children, Brad & Meg McConnell, Lisa & Chuck Peterson, Carrie Whittington, Jason & Sarah McConnell, her grandchildren, Bradley & Jaimie McConnell, Chad Whittington, Megan & Matt Wagenhouser, Rachel & Sam Gray, Cody Peterson, Cassidy Peterson, McKenzie Peterson, Alex Durham, Preston McConnell, and Hunter McConnell, and her great grandchildren, Ainsley & Caleb McConnell and Luke, Neely & Clara Wagenhauser. She was so proud of all of them.
Jewell is also survived by two siblings, Kermit Perkins (Cindy) and Shirley Richards (Rusty), sisters-in law Nellie Perkins, Margaret Ann Perkins and Betty McConnell, brothers-in-law Robert Helton and Paul Freeman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family. She was preceded in death by many other family members and friends and I know she is rejoicing as she sees them again. While we feel she was taken from us way too soon, we were so blessed to have her in our lives and now heaven is blessed to have such a beautiful Angel.
However, you knew her (“Miss Jewell”, “Aunt Jewell”, “Mom”, “Mamaw”), she was a gracious, Southern, Christian lady, selfless to the end, and our lives were better because she was in it. We love her and will honor her memory forever!
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 10, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6230 Beatties Ford Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 in the Family Life Center with memorial service at 3:00 PM.
Contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Cemetery Fund.
James Funeral Home is serving the family.
