Jo Ann Gulledge's Obituary
Jo Ann Plyler Gulledge graduated with honors to her heavenly reward January 30th, 2018, at the glorious age of 89. She was a resident of the Haven in Charlotte, NC, and attended by Charlotte Hospice.
Jo Ann was born November 12,1928, in Pageland, SC, the daughter of the late George Pierce Plyer and Katie Lee Presley Plyer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Edward Ingram Gulledge, Jr.; sisters, Peggy Plyler and Linda Plyler Smith; and late second husband Bill Simpson.
Jo Ann was a member of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church since 1955. In her younger days, she served in many capacities in her church. She also was a Home Extension member and officer and a dedicated 4-H leader. She was a full-time wife and mother until deciding to enter the work force as a receptionist in 1963 for Ciba Geigy (later Crompton and Knowles), retiring 20 years later.
Jo Ann never met a stranger. She will be remembered as a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone she met. Precious family memories include her famous cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, home-churned ice cream made with our own milk, picnics, family dinners and most of all, her joyful, loving spirit, which will live on in all who loved her. Her hospitality and love were personified by gifts of candy and gum, a personal ministry, that she shared with church members and total strangers alike.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church with Reverend Kenneth Craig officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
