Joan Vrtiak Iversen's Obituary
Joan Vrtiak Iversen, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, died peacefully at home on April 27, 2019. Joan was born on January 23, 1940 to John Matthew Vrtiak and Suzanne Hurta Vrtiak in Port Chester, New York, where she grew up and graduated from Port Chester High School in 1958.
After high school, Joan attended Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Manhattan. She began her career on Madison Avenue in New York City. Later Joan worked at American Machinery and Foundry in Greenwich, Connecticut. Eventually, Joan became the office manager of Dougherty, Dougherty & Vecchiolla Law Office in Greenwich, where she worked for many years.
Joan married the love of her life, John Iversen, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Byram, Connecticut, on October 1, 1960. Joan and John welcomed a daughter, Heather, in 1968. In 2003, Joan and John moved from Connecticut to the Charlotte, North Carolina area to be closer to their daughter.
Joan is survived by her husband, daughter Heather Mordenti (Michael), brother John Vrtiak (Kate), several sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Joan was fun-loving, generous, and kind. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and church. Joan will be greatly missed.
A memorial service honoring Joan’s life will be held at Community in Christ Lutheran Church, 7621 Norman Island Drive, Cornelius, NC 28031 on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to the church’s building fund.
