JoAnn Wilhelm's Obituary
JoAnn Helms Wilhelm, 83 of Huntersville died June 5, 2020. She was born on September 10, 1936 in Union County to the late Gilmer and Daisy Helms.
JoAnn is remembered by her family as a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was known and loved by many as a good friend and faithful follower of Christ. Her artistry and skill at “making stitches”, as she called it, was lovingly shared with others through her welcoming hospitality. She frequently enjoyed teaching the love of sewing and quilting in her home with many others, bridging the generational gap. She also shared this joy in her quilt shop, “A Stitch In Time”, which she and her husband, Ted, opened in old town Huntersville many years ago. Many of her beautiful creations are in homes, businesses ,and churches across Huntersville and the surrounding area. When she wasn’t sewing, quilting, or knitting you could usually find her “playing in the dirt” and taking great joy in caring for her beautiful flowers, like her mother before her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Eugene Wilhelm.
Survivors include her daughters, Kelli King and husband Keith of Charlotte, Kimberly Jo Gaffney and husband Patrick of Port Orange, FL, Michele Brotherton and husband Robert of Huntersville; 6 grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, Jessica, Madelyn, Luke and Lilly; 1 great-grandchild, Emma; and her beloved kitties Toby and Hank.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 119 N. Old Statesville Rd. Huntersville, NC 28078 or the Alzheimers Foundation, https://alzfdn.org.
