Houser Family - we are so sorry for your loss. We always enjoyed talking to Joe at the Gilead fish fry and have many fond memories. He was an asset to our country and our community. May God comfort you during this difficult time.

My father, Richard Houser, Jr., was Joe's cousin. He and Mother enjoyed visiting with Joe and Mary and spoke of them fondly. Dad especially enjoyed swapping stories with Joe, especially the one where their path's crossed during their tour in WWII. What a coincidence. It was a special surprise to tune in to WCNC Ch. 6 news Thurs.night at 6:00 and see the feature honoring Joe and his devotion to our country. Wow!
Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you all during this sad time.

Uncle Joe and my dad were brothers and best friends. Both boys had scars, they inflicted on each other, to prove their brotherly love. I always enjoyed visiting to hear Uncle Joe's stories, even though I had heard them many times. He loved the Army and his face lite up when he got a chance to share his stories. He was a very dedicated person and respectful of others. His long tenure at Automotive electric, 60 plus years, and his service to our country are a few examples of his dedication. He sacrificed to start the volunteer fire department, to serve the community. I think his saddest day was when he was forced to retire from the Army reserves.
Joe's calling was to service others. He gave up a lot for the satisfaction of serving others. I don't remember him ever asking for anything in return. His return was a thank you.
Joe will be missed. Hardly does a day go by that I don't think of Joe and Mary and the influence they had. Joe, I love you and thank you for all you've done.

It has been a Honor serving Joe at the Charlotte VA. My heart goes out to the family and anyone else who was a part of his long life. World War II Veterans is our worlds greatest generation period. We need to preserve our hero’s stories for ever. Although I have only met Joe on a couple of occasions I got to here a story or two. May you Rest In Peace Brother.
