John Cauthen's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Melvin Cauthen Jr., 79, after a brief illness on April 30, 2024, with his loving wife of 54 years, Janice Cauthen by his side.
John was born on January 9th, 1945, to John and Pauline Cauthen. A lifelong North Carolinian, John was known for his love of the outdoors, especially Lake Norman, where he and Jan made their home. He took great pride in his home, and his landscaping and carpentry skills created a beautiful and peaceful environment. He and Jan shared a love of traveling and dining out at new and longtime favorite restaurants and were known as “regulars” most anywhere they went. John and Jan shared a special bond with their nephew Roddy, whom they spent many weekends, evenings out and day trips with. John was known to most as “Uncle John.”
John was also an avid fisherman and spent many days teaching others the art and joy of fishing as well. John is also known for his love of sports…not only watching but playing multiple sports through the years. In his later years, John enjoyed spending time with Grand Nephew Mason and Grand Neice Ella, watching them play sports, attending performances and showing them how best to enjoy life on the water.
John enjoyed a long and successful career as a transportation manager for Fieldcrest Cannon/Pillowtex in Kannapolis, North Carolina. He is known for his strong work ethic, leadership skills and his ability to take on unique challenges. John was also a long time member of the Kannapolis Masonic Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Sr., mother Pauline and stepfather Fred Jenkins. He is survived by his wife Janice Cauthen, sister Betty Phillips, brother-in-law Buddy, niece Lynn Russell, Lynn’s husband Mark, nephew Roddy Cobb, Roddy’s wife Lisa Cobb and their children Mason and Ella.
A visitation to celebrate John’s life is in the planning stages and we will provide updates as soon as possible.
