John Charles Carpino's Obituary
A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, John Carpino Sr., 80, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away at his home July 23, 2018. He had bravely fought Parkinson's. John was born January 6, 1938, in Kingston, New York to Charles and Rose (Spada) Carpino of Glasco, New York. He graduated from Saugerties High School in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Evva Marie (Turco) on September 10, 1960. John worked at and retired from International Business Machines (IBM) in both Kingston, New York and Poughkeepsie, New York after 38 years as a Production Control Specialist and Program Administrator. He also served proudly two years of active duty in the United States Army from 1961-63 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and four years reserve duty in the Army Reserves from 1963-67.
John was very active in his community of Glasco, New York, where he resided for 62 years. He became a volunteer firefighter for the Glasco Fire Department when he was 17 and served for 44 years, including four as Assistant Chief. John was also instrumental in the development of the Glasco Little League Baseball program, where he served as a coach for eight years and president of the league for twelve years. He was also the Cub Scout representative for the Glasco Fire Company. John retired to Coral Springs, Florida in 2000, where he served as president of the Harbor Island Home Owners Association for five years. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Hillsboro Cove Home Owners Association in Deerfield Beach, Florida. John was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Glasco, New York, where he was an altar boy, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, bowling, and travelling with his family. John was grateful to be able to travel the world with his beloved wife, enjoying many cruises with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending all of the various sporting events that his grandchildren participated in and was one of their biggest fans.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evva Carpino of Cornelius, North Carolina; son, John Carpino Jr. and wife, Regina of Norman Park, Georgia; son, Michael Carpino and wife, Suzanne of Huntersville, North Carolina; grandsons, Christopher Carpino of Cornelius, North Carolina; Evan Carpino of Norman Park, Georgia; Bill Strange of Largo, Florida; triplets, Anthony, Michael, and Ryan Carpino of Huntersville, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Jordan and Jadyn Strange of Pinellas Park, Florida; brother-in-law, of Michael and Joanne Petramale of Saugerties, New York, Thomas Turco of Kingston, New York, and Albert Hrdlicka of Saugerties, New York; and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Rose (Spada) Carpino; sister, Marlene (Carpino) Hrdlicka; sister-in-law, Patricia Turco and mother-in-law, Adeline (Marino) Turco.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at the Historic Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, North Carolina with Army Military Honors. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
A Memorial Mass will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Glasco, New York at a date to be announced.
