John Francis McKay's Obituary
John McKay, 76, of Cornelius, NC passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Levine-Dickson Hospice House of pancreatic cancer.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1934 in Hornell, NY son of Gerald and Catherine Coston McKay. John graduated from Hornell High in 1952 and participated in football, basketball and track. He spent many hours at the YMCA. At the age of 14 he earned an Eagle Scout award. John served as a U.S. Marine 1953-1955. He attended Alfred State and graduated from Kent State University in 1959. He was a Sigma Nu brother. He worked at Allstate Insurance and retired from Progressive Insurance as VP of Operations in Cleveland, Ohio.
Surviving is wife S. Jean Boyd McKay; son Kevin (Kristen) and granddaughters Keegan, Kasey and Riley of Tampa, Florida; daughter Kory (Nat) Gorham and grandchildren Connor, McKenna and Colin of Weddington, NC. Sisters Susan Argentieri (Walter) and Kathleen Zweifel (Dr. Paul) and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, James Patrick McKay.
The family would like to thank Dr. R. Krumdieck and Dr. Kevin Roof,John Donohoe of St. Therese and the many friends and neighbors who have shown love and support including PEO Chapter CC, Davidson United Methodist Church and Hospice of Lake Norman.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7th at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville. The family will be receiving friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be make to Hospice-Lake Norman 705 Griffith Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036 or Levine Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC or a charity of your choice.
