John David Scott's Obituary
John “Johnny” David Scott, 72, of Huntersville, NC, born on October 17, 1943, died on October 17, 2015, at Carolinas ContinueCARE Hospital at Pineville with his wife and son by his side. He was born in Charlotte, NC to Clyde Roscoe and Elizabeth Hortense Wolff Scott. He was preceded in death by many loved ones, including his beloved parents and his paternal grandparents, Clyde and Essie Beacham Scott with whom he had a special bond.
Johnny was raised in the Derita community and graduated from North Mecklenburg High School. After marrying his high school sweetheart, he moved to Huntersville. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Charlotte, NC in 1993, and enjoyed every minute of his retirement without having ever set another alarm clock. He was admired for his honest, unpretentious, non-judgmental life.
Johnny was a beloved, devoted husband, father, and pawpaw. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Davis Scott; his son J. David Scott, Jr. (Dink) and his wife Robbin Clark Scott; granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Scott (17), and grandson, Jack Clarkson Scott (7), Others left to mourn his death: his aunt, Sue Scott Roberson Kent (George), Concord, NC; his sisters, Beth Ann Scott Hager of Davidson, NC, and Cindy Scott Barnes of Huntersville, NC; his brothers-in law Roger Barnes and Ronald B. Sellers of Huntersville, NC. His sister-in-law, Linda Davis Sellers, preceded him in death on September 3, 2015. Johnny enjoyed being uncle to his seven nieces. With his nieces, Lori Hager Van Popering of Huntersville and Kathy Hager Weatherford of Stanley, NC, Johnny enjoyed a special bond, having always been a part of their lives as they grew up with his son, sharing all milestones of their lives and always enjoyed being in their homes for numerous occasions and their love for him as being their only uncle; holding a special place in Johnny's heart was his life-long, caring friends Terry and Joyce Williams of Huntersville,NC and their family - the Williams and Scott families spent many wonderful, memory filled beach vacations during their children's early years. Johnny and Terry were like brothers and have "always been here" for each other.
There will be no funeral service, as Johnny's family respects his request of no service and his abiding trust in death as in life. The family will gather at the beach, at a later time, to celebrate Johnny's life.
Our family wishes to thank the doctors and each staff member at Carolinas ContinueCARE Hospital at Pineville for the exceptional care, love, dignity, and special attention provided Johnny and our family during the ten weeks Johnny courageously faced his imminent death from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) (Dr. Nazim Syed, Lisa Johnson, Donna, Cynthia, Pat, Margaret, Tony, Elvis, Jenna, Sawyer, Fred, Elvira, Porsche, to name only a few). We thank our family members, friends, and caring neighbors for their caring thoughts and deeds during this most difficult journey. We continue to feel very blessed, and ask God for his continued blessings.
Beach vacations, computers, televisions, and politics were Johnny's favorite pastimes/hobbies; friends and family relied on his computer knowledge, but not so much on his resourceful political knowledge. And, no, as Johnny approached his death, he never had to say, "Wish I had spent more time with my family!" He was devoted to and always enjoyed nothing more than being part of his son's and his grandchildren's lives (what better way for a husband to become even more loved and respected?). For several years, his most enjoyable retirement responsibility was after school care of his much loved granddaughter, picking her up in time for their daily activity with "SpongeBob" and doing "their" Friday spelling test homework assignment. When his beloved grandson was born, it wasn't long until "Batman" and Marvel Heroes was the theme of visits. He loved his grandchildren to "the moon and back." Johnny deeply regretted his disease never allowed him the opportunity to enjoy spending time with Jack at the beach as he had done with Hannah since she was three months old.
Individuals, wishing to do so, may honor Johnny by doing something special with/for their families or make a donation to their favorite cause or charity.
James Funeral Services, Huntersville, NC is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com.
