John Lewis' Obituary
John G. Lewis, 81, of Davidson, NC, and Ocean Drive, SC, died on Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House. He was born on August 8, 1930, in Jacksonville, FL , to the late Pearce and Margaret McLin Lewis. He served in both the U.S. Army and Navy and enjoyed a successful career as a manufacturer's representative for Corbin, Ltd., Hickey-Freeman, and Bobby Jones men's clothing. He was an avid golfer and dancer and was a member of The Shagger's Hall of Fame as well as The Living Legends, organizations dedicated to the preservation of the shag, the South Carolina state dance.
He is survived by his wife , Jan Lewis; sister, Margaret Ann Schwartzburg of Lawrence, KS; son, John G. Lewis, III, and wife Sharon of Raleigh; daughter, Cathy Sloan and husband Steve of Statesville; and son, Bert Ogburn and wife Jennifer of Mt. Pleasant, SC; niece Katie Strahan and husband Ward of Fairway, KS; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-nephew. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Nadine T. Atkinson; brother-in-law Steve Atkinson and wife Alicia, and niece Kathryn Atkinson. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Maj. (ret.) Walter G. Atkinson, Jr., and his brother-in-law, Tripp Atkinson.
Funeral services will be private.
