John Hoyle Rutledge's Obituary
John “Johnny” Hoyle Rutledge of Cornelius, NC passed away on May 10th, 2026. He was born on August 27, 1947 to Sara Carroll Rutledge and John Rutledge. He was born in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Garinger High School. After graduation, he attended North Carolina State University for two years before becoming a career licensed electrician. After 23 years, he decided to change careers and obtained a position as a maintenance mechanic at Ameri-Steele in Huntersville where he worked for 22 years before retiring in 2010. He was of the Catholic faith and attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Denver, NC.
Johnny had three sons Eric, Christopher and Joshua, with his first wife. In 2000, Johnny met the love of his life, Sandra while dancing and it was love at first sight. They became inseparable and married one year later and have celebrated over 25 years of marriage. Johnny was an avid sports fan and was a die hard Washington Redskins and New York Yankees fan and it was very rare that you would see him without sporting Redskins attire.
Johnny also loved the Christmas season as he and Sandra hosted an annual Christmas Eve party for friends and family for over 20 years. Johnny was well known in the community; he and Sandra enjoyed spending time with so many friends in various local establishments within the Cornelius area. Dancing was his passion and delight. He and Sandra enjoyed participating in SOS in Myrtle Beach twice a year for the past 25 years. They also enjoyed going dancing every Friday night at the bowling alley in Mooresville, NC.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Sandra Rutledge and son Joshua Rutledge. He is preceded in death by his parents and his two sons, Eric and Christopher. Johnny was a true friend, gentleman, and confidant to those he loved and to those who loved him. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC on Sunday May 17th from 2:00 - 4:00pm.
