John Sumner's Obituary
John Edward Sumner, 94 of Denver, NC died August 12, 2020 at his home. He was born on June 29, 1926 in Lee County, FL to the late JC and Eula Sumner. John and Ruby were married for 72 years. John served in the US Navy, serving in the South Pacific during WW2 and participated in battles of Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Afterwards he spent most of his career in the newspaper industry. Following that he participated with his sons in the founding of AlanDale Carpets (Westport Flooring) in Denver.
Survivors include his wife Ruby; sons, Dale and wife Donna of Denver and Alan and wife Tanya of Catawba; grandchildren, Garrett, Haley and Candy, Courtney and great-grandchildren, Charlee Rose, Warner, and Halen.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, alzfdn.org.
