Patrick Thompson's Obituary
John Patrick Thompson, 53, of Charlotte died March 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on June 20, 1969, in Charlotte to Nancy Gibson Thompson and the late Emmett Nelson Thompson, both of Charlotte, NC.
Pat grew up in northwest Charlotte, graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville in 1987. He went on to Clemson University and graduated in 1992, with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He was a brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon. fraternity at Clemson and made lifelong friendships throughout the brotherhood.
Pat was also a 3rd degree blackbelt in Kempo Karate and thrived under the teachings of Master Irwin Carmichael and many others.
Pat loved fishing, hunting, science fiction and the culture of Asia. During his engineering career, he traveled often and could speak Mandarin as a 2nd language. He also enjoyed going to the family Virginia house in the mountain and fishing on the coast whenever possible. He especially enjoyed watching his Clemson Tigers play football and more. He was a Tiger to the core. Pat was also a member of the Long Creek Masonic Lodge and the brotherhood of Masons.
Pat’s life and career steered him to Atlanta where he got married and became the father of 2 beautiful boys, identical twins, Chase and Chandler Thompson. He was so proud of their achievements and talents as they made their way to Kennesaw State University and are both about to complete their college degrees this year.
Pat eventually moved back to Charlotte and continued his career in engineering, specializing in solar energy design and implementation for various industries.
Pat is survived by his sons, Chase Thompson and Chandler Thompson, of Canton, GA; mother, Nancy Thompson; siblings, Jenifer Thompson Roser and Matt Thompson; sister-in-law, Sandy Thompson; plus a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, great aunts and uncles and more who all love him dearly.
His personality and genuine love for his family made him a favorite at any gathering and brought laughter and joy to those big and small. All were touched by his kindness and wonderful sense of humor.
Viewing in the sanctuary for Pat will begin at 12:30 PM on Saturday, March 25, at Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary. A graveside service at Cook’s will follow with family visiting afterwards in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children's Hospital in Greenville, SC, or a charity of your choice, in his name.
His family thanks everyone for the support , love and prayers given during this difficult time.
