Charlotte native and Davidson resident John Martin died on Friday, June 8 near his beloved Lake Norman. John is survived by Judith Brady Martin, his loving wife of 42-plus years; proud son John Wright Martin III and his wife Whit Read Obituary

Dear Judy, John III, Whitney, Hogan, Jones, and Janie,
Our family is very sad to learn of John's passing. For 6 years, John warmly greeted our children as they walked to and from Davidson Elementary. Our youngest (also named John) was very appreciative of Mr. John, and looked forward to his weekly chats about school work (didn't like it much) and gaming (loved it). Mr. John gifted our youngest the nick-name Marathon John, which we still use on occasion.

My family has fond memories of being your neighbor! John and Ken’s $1 bets on Carolina-NC State games, and the back and forth banter that surely took place is legendary! Trick or treating when our children were preschoolers was fun. And Christmas parties at your house were also festive!
Lauren, Meredith and I send prayers that God will grant you grace as you grieve. I know John has found Dean Smith in heaven and is having a conversation!

We were so sad on Sunday when we heard of John's passing. We will all miss our Sunday morning chats about Carolina basketball, football & baseball and Davidson basketball. So many times this week we have thought about him - with Carolina going to the College World Series, Steph Curry and the Warriors winning the NBA championship, and Ryan heading to Davidson basketball camp. All things we would have had a good chat about on Sunday morning.
Also, we learned something new about him - didn't know he was a Navy Supply officer (Kristy also was Navy Supply Corps after graduating from UNC NROTC).
We unfortunately will be out of town this weekend, but know that we are with you in spirit. We will look forward to seeing you when we are back in town.

Just wanted you to know that I am praying for you and your family during this time. I have often thought of the 2 of you, especially when NCSU played UNC. I have missed our chats before and after the church service, especially about the college teams.
