Johnny Johnson's Obituary
Johnny William Johnson, 68, of Charlotte went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2013 at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He remained a very optimistic person with a smile until the very end. He was born on December 7, 1944 in Huntersville to the late Oscar Eugene and Thetus Johnson Webster. His father, mother and sister Carolyn Buchanan preceded him in death.
In 1968, Johnny went into business for himself. He was president and sole owner of The Tryon Co., Inc. Johnny called himself “The Bookman”. He sold encyclopedias and he treasured all the letters he received from families over the years telling him how much their children enjoyed their encyclopedias.
Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Vivian Mundy Johnson; sons Keith and wife Tracy and Kevin and wife DeAnn, all of Charlotte as well as two adorable grandchildren, Jason and Hannah Johnson; brothers, Oscar E. Johnson, Jr. and wife Vivian and sisters, Francis Buchanan and husband Roy, Evelyn Gibbey and husband James and Patricia Gibbey of Mooresville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28204.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 Tuesday, July 30 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allan Purtill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held after services in the family life center.
Johnny’s loved ones have been with him and his wife Vivian, supporting them and loving them all through his battle. Rest in peace, our dearest Johnny, job well done!
