Joseph Patrick Behan's Obituary
Joseph Patrick Behan, 72, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026. Born on March 3, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, Joe was the son of the late John Paul Behan, Jr. and Mildred Leighley Behan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Louette Behan; his brother, John Paul Behan III; and his stepson, Kevin Carosa.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Becky Behan; his children, Janelle Behan, Patrick Cody Behan (Hideko Behan), Jodi Behan (Scotland Reid), Kathleen Carosa, and Kelly Carosa; and his cherished grandchildren, RJ Palacios, Harlow Falls, Sawyer Falls, Ayaka Behan, Emika Behan, and Merrick Behan. He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion, Kona; his siblings, Jeffrey Behan (Teresa), Jerry Behan (Demetria), and Elaine Behan-Tidwell (Todd); his beloved sisters-in-law, Mary Jill Rupik, Marianne Rupik, and Rachel Sabatini; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Joe dedicated his career to the aviation industry, working as an aircraft mechanic for American Airlines. He began his career with PSA Airlines, a company he always held close to his heart. A respected labor leader, Joe proudly served as Past Union President of IAM Victory Local 1725, advocating for his fellow workers throughout his career.
Known affectionately as "Pirate Joe," Joe lived life with enthusiasm, humor, and a spirit of adventure. He loved traveling, especially casino trips and cruises, and enjoyed spending time fishing, relaxing by his backyard pool, and gathering with family and friends for a good party. His love of all things pirate became part of his identity and brought smiles to everyone who knew him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gregory O'Leary, Dr. Jimoh, Dr. Timothy Kuo, and Lauri Mares for their exceptional care and dedication in helping prolong Joe's health and quality of life. Special thanks are also extended to the compassionate staff of Novant Hospice, as well as dear friends Rich and RoseAnn Bellus and Chris and Lisa Roy for their unwavering support and friendship.
Joe's larger-than-life personality, generous heart, and love for family and friends will be remembered always. He leaves behind countless cherished memories and a legacy of loyalty, laughter, and love.

The family will host a visitation and reception from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at James Funeral Home. A Celebration of Joe’s life will take place at 12:00pm followed by interment at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
