Joseph K. Dumizo's Obituary
Joseph Kuneke Dumizo, 64, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Joseph was born on December 22, 1959, in the village of Babungo near Bamenda, outside the coastal city of Limbe, Cameroon to the late Sarah Idufe and Isaac Dumizo.
As a young man, Joseph established himself as the highest performing life insurance sales agent for ALICO in Cameroon. This achievement ultimately enabled Joseph to immigrate from Cameroon to the United States in 1985 in pursuit of higher education. Joseph obtained his baccalaureate at Delaware State College, graduating with a B.S. in Economics and Marketing in 1989. At West Chester University in Pennsylvania Joseph diligently continued his studies, earning a Masters degree in Business Administration in 1992. He was proud to serve as Tax Collector for Wilmington, DE. Highly intelligent, Joseph worked tirelessly to achieve all of this in just a few short years, all while adapting to life in a new country. Joseph's passion for knowledge and meeting the goals he set for himself was steadfast throughout his life, as evidenced by his many educational and professional accomplishments.
Settling in Charlotte, NC in the early 2000’s, Joseph forged a successful career for himself as a Broker-In-Charge of his own business, Premier Choice Realty, INC. and considered himself blessed to have a career that fulfilled him as he helped others find their dream homes. One of his favorite recent projects was crafting and distributing a monthly local real estate newsletter. In 2009, Joseph wrote and published a book - Miracle Juicing: Unleashing the Secret to Vibrant Health - to share the benefits he’d discovered with the world. Extraordinarily driven, tremendously hard-working, and unflappably optimistic, Joseph met any challenge he faced with humor and grace. He spent his life investing his time and energy into a plethora of meaningful community functions and activities.
Joseph was a deeply spiritual man whose life reflected his devotion to and personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. He was an active member of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church where he cherished his time serving on the Property and Grounds Committee and worshiping as percussionist with the 9:45 AM Sunday morning Praise Team, alongside his wife, Linda, Flutist. Joseph was also a highly respected member of the Charlottean Cameroonian community and foundational pillar of CAMCO, where he served as Vice President for several terms.
Joseph had an indelible zest for life and filled his days with meaningful pursuits. He enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors, from grilling on his deck to exploring beaches and adventures on his pontoon boat. A man of many hobbies, Joseph appreciated all kinds of music, crafting delicious homemade wines, painting acrylic landscapes, and, above all, treasured every moment spent with his family. His generous, gregarious, and gentle nature was a gift to all who had the privilege of meeting him.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret and Anna. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Linda Dumizo; sons, Tohlei Dumizo of Tacumseh, MO and Na’ye Dumizo of Charlotte, NC; daughter & son-in-law Maribel and Etengeneng Ebob, and daughter Margaret Kunwi Dumizo, all of Charlotte, NC; step-children, Brian LaBombard & fiancée Dahiana Baez of Charlotte, NC and Kimberly LaBombard & fiancé Anthony Gandy of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Sam Dumizo of Cameroon; grandchildren, Diana, Emily, & Othniel Ebob, Nathaniel Fahnwi Dumizo, and Victoria Fauziya Dauda; as well as innumerable other beloved relatives and dear friends. Joseph delighted in his growing family and extended circle of friendships.
