Joseph Glenn Abernethy,'s Obituary
Joseph Glenn Abernethy, Jr. “Joe”, 56, of Concord, formerly of Charlotte, died June 7, 2013 at his home. He was born on November 10, 1956 in Mecklenburg County to the late Glenn and Mag Abernethy. He graduated from North Meck High School in 1975 graduated from Appalachian State University with an industrial arts degree in 1979. He owned Abernethy Lumber. Taking care of his customers and his family were his biggest joys. He also enjoyed fishing and enjoying the sunrises and sunsets from his boat on the waterways surrounding the Carolina coast. Joe was most recently a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and a long time member of Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife Patti Williams Abernethy; sons, Glenn III of Charlotte, Patrick of Charlotte, K.C. of Concord and Dylan of Concord; siblings, Glenda Abernethy, Christy Nixon (Reggie) and Lisa Poole; nephews, Holden and Kenton and nieces Courtenay and Reilly; in-laws, Melvin and Betty Williams; sister-in-law Melda (Raeford) Bustle and brother-in-law Tommy (Cookie) Williams.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society (via cancer.org) or to the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Missions Fund, 6050 Hickory Grove Rd., Charlotte, NC 28215.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, June 10 at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville.
The funeral service will be held at 3 PM Tuesday at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
