Joseph Charles Young Jr's Obituary
Joseph Charles Young, Jr., age 76, of Cornelius, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born on December 10, 1949, in Upper Darby, PA, to Joseph Charles, Sr. and Irma (Rolly) Young. He married his wife of 47 years, Cindy, on March 10, 1979.
Joe was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He coached basketball for decades, impacting the lives of dozens of athletes with his animated and passionate coaching. His love of music was present throughout his life as well, playing bass guitar and touring the country with his band in his early years, and continuing to play as a hobby later in his life. Joe was an avid Philly sports fan, religiously gathering every Sunday with family to catch the Birds. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was known for treating the grandkids to ice cream and teaching the E-A-G-L-E-S chant to anyone in the vicinity after an Eagles touchdown. He developed a passion for cycling and pickleball later in life, participating in several charity-based races and crafting a nasty forehand.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents and his sister Celine Young. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cindy; his children Jessica Wagner (Brad), Brett Young (Monica), Alexandra Young (Lauren), and Amanda Kosters (Sam); his sister, Alice Young; his grandchildren Avery, Nora, Drexel, Troy, Bronson, Kip, and Charlie; and his loyal husky, Koda.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, 217 Brawley School Rd, Mooresville, NC 28117, on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM followed by interment at Mount Zion Community Cemetery, 11312 Smith Rd, Cornelius, NC 28031.
