Joshua Barbati's Obituary
Joshua A. Barbati, 79, of Charlotte, NC., went to be with his Lord Friday May 11, 2012 after a courageous 10 year battle with Melanoma. Born in Bristol CT. in 1933, he was the son of the late Antonio and Rosina (Pugliese) Barbati. He graduated from Central Connecticut State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Education in 1960, where he was initiated into Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education. He was also a member of Epsilon Pi Tua the International Honorary Fraternity in Technology Education. In the following year he was awarded a graduate assistantship in Technology Education. Joshua’s major area of study was Power Technology. In 1961 he was awarded the Master of Arts Degree in Technology Education. He accepted a teaching position with the Baltimore Maryland County Schools as a Technology Instructor. Throughout his career he initiated several innovative programs in Technology Education. Many of his students received scholarships from higher institutions to pursue study in Engineering and Architectural Design. Due to his Professional Excellence Josh was honored in 1985 as “Technology Teacher of the Year” for the State of Maryland. He also served as an Editorial Review Consultant for a major electronics firm in the development of high school electronics workbooks.
Joshua and Betty enjoyed ballroom dancing at many clubs in Baltimore and Charlotte. He was also an avid bowler for many years including a stint on the PBA tour until an injury sidelined him and he became an instructor. Joshua was an energetic Orioles and Braves fan.
Joshua is survived by his beloved companion of many years, Betty L. Warnick and her family. He is also survived by his sister Ruth B. Campelli and her husband Pietro of Vernon CT., several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
Consistent with his wishes, Mr. Barbati’s body was donated to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for scientific research.
A private memorial service and internment will be held in Meriden, CT. at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or The Levine and Dickson Hospice House of Huntersville, North Carolina.
