Josie Barbee's Obituary
Josie Kiker Barbee, 96, of Huntersville, passed away on Sunday, June15, at Novant Hospital in Huntersville from medical complications.
She was the daughter of the late Martin Edmund and Rettie Nance Kiker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Carl (AC) Barbee, son, Frank Stephen Barbee, brothers Charles Hampton Kiker, Martin Luther Kiker, Fincher Baxter Kiker, Graham Edmund Kiker and sister, Mae K Kiker. She is survived by her sons, David (Becky) of Asheville and Tim (Lynne) of Monroe, and daughter-in-law Sabrina of Huntersville. She had six grandchildren, Andrew (Katie), Stephen (Sarah), Jenny (Dan), Carolyn (Miles), Seth (Miah) and Whitney (Garet), and 15 great grandchildren.
Josie was born in Anson County, NC and graduated from Burnsville High School in Anson County. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class and was the recipient of the Civitan Club’s Citizenship award. Josie graduated from King’s Business College in Charlotte and for four years was the secretary to the Personnel Director of the American Trust Company in Charlotte. In later years, she was the bookkeeper/secretary for her husband’s business, A.C. Electric Contracting Company.
Josie was married to AC Barbee in 1950, whom she met in church just following his discharge from the US Navy. Josie loved going camping with AC and their three sons. She loved music, especially the old hymns and she enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, sewing, and making her own clothes.
Josie received Christ as her Savior at the age of 16 and loved participating in her local church as a member of the choir and evangelism ministry. She was a Certified Lay Teacher/Trainer in the Evangelism Explosion Ministry. She was a member of the Huntersville ARP Church.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 9:00-10:00am at James Funeral Home in Huntersville with a graveside service following at Sharon Memorial Gardens in Charlotte at 11:00 am.
