Joy Washington's Obituary
Joy Ann Washington, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Schoolcraft, MI passed away March 25, 2012 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC after bravely battling kidney cancer.
Joy was born March 9, 1968 in Three Rivers, Michigan, the daughter of Loren and Jean [Glenn] Warfield. She was a graduate of Schoolcraft High School, DePauw University where she earned a BA in Psychology, and Northwestern University with a Masters Degree in Communications. Her career included Managing Editor for Bank of America Securities in Chicago, and most recently, Preschool Teacher and Staffing Coordinator for University City United Methodist Church Preschool. Her greatest and most rewarding work was as a dedicated and loving mother of three children.
Joy was a member of Davidson United Methodist Church where she served faithfully for many years in Sunday School, Children's Choirs, Adult Bible Study, United Methodist Women, and even writing children's Sunday School curriculum for the church. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and school volunteer for many years.
She is survived by her children; Jordan Alexander Washington, Grace Mae Washington, and Naomi Ann Washington, all of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are her mother, her sister, Carole [Scott] McNees, nephew, Brandon McNees, and niece, Chelsey McNees, all of Schoolcraft, MI. Joy was preceded in death by her father, Loren Warfield, on March 10, 2012.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Davidson United Methodist Church with Dr. Jody Seymour officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the DUMC Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the children's education fund at Fifth Third Bank (payable to Joy Washington Memorial), which can be mailed to 16413 Prairie Brook, Schoolcraft, MI 49087, or deposited at any Fifth Third branch.
According to Joy’s wishes, her body was donated for medical research and subsequent cremation.
