Judith "Judy" Irene DeNunzio Hawes' Obituary
Judith (Judy) Irene DeNunzio Hawes, 77 of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Atrium Health Pineville Hospital in Charlotte.
Judy was born on January 7, 1947, in Washington, D.C. During her youth she was an accomplished gymnast, excelling in the sport until an injury caused her to stop performing. She loved cooking, the arts, music, and especially animals. Judy had a quiet personality but often surprised friends with her sense of humor and quick laugh. During her career, she worked for several years as a surgical assistant with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. She and her husband lived in Virginia and West Virginia before relocating to North Carolina in 1993 where they worked until retiring. They continued to make Charlotte their home after retirement.
Judy is survived by her husband of 43 years, John (Tommy) Thomas Hawes, her two sons, Frank Burstein of Manorville, NY, and Michael Burstein and wife Shanda of Charlotte, NC; two step-children, Sean Hawes of El Paso, TX, and Mistie Hawes of Nashua, NH; and several grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Linda, and her husband, Dan Morley, and her half-sister, Lois, and her husband, Diego Hidalgo, as well as many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Margaret DeNunzio, and half-sisters, Dawn Fairfax and Darlene Fairfax.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at James Funeral Home of Huntersville, NC. There will be a reception immediately following the service at the funeral home.
