Judy Lee Harbaugh's Obituary
Judith L. Harbaugh, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017, at her home in Charlotte, NC. She was 77 years old.
Judy was born February 15, 1940, to John and Marjorie Harbaugh. She spent her childhood in Russell, Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University in 1961.
She was a teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District in Overland Park, Kansas, for two years before joining the staff of Congressman Robert Dole in Washington, DC. She continued to serve Mr. Dole through his successful Senate campaign elections and on Senator Dole's Presidential Election Committee.
In 1973, Judy worked for Anne Armstrong, the newly appointed Counselor to the President in President Richard Nixon's Cabinet. She accompanied Mrs. Armstrong to London in 1976, when she was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom by President Gerald Ford.
Judy completed her career as the Board Secretary of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, founded by Henry Kissinger, in Washington, DC. Upon retirement in 2005, Judy moved to the Delaware shore. She then moved to Charlotte in 2010.
Throughout her life, Judy enjoyed traveling with friends and was an avid reader. She took great interest in her nephews and nieces, and their children. Judy was well-loved by both family and friends.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jeanie Harbaugh of Fort Mill, SC. She also leaves behind a nephew, Jason Harbaugh of Kannapolis, NC, and nieces, Stephanie Graby ( and husband Graig Graby) of Herndon, Virginia, and Katherine Mueller (and husband Ted Mueller) of Huntersville, NC, and their children; Meghan, Evan, Tressa, Hayden, and Owen Graby, and Charlotte, Noah, and Jonah Mueller.
Judy will be remembered by her family at a memorial service in Fort Mill, SC in December. She will be buried next to her mother and father at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.
