June Abernethy's Obituary
June Overcash Abernethy, 88, of Charlotte died July 9, 2023. She was born on August 24, 1934 in Mecklenburg County to the late Archie H. and Mabel Broome Overcash. She is preceded in death by her husband Hal.
In her early married life, June was blessed to be able to be at home, rear her four children, and watch them follow God's plan for their lives. She then pursued her passion for floral arrangement and later as a wedding coordinator with J & N Florals. June's remarkable gift of hospitality, creating colorful, well-designed events, and her memorable culinary skills are just some of the things that define her heart for beauty and other people. She simply loved making the world a more beautiful place for her family and others. Hal was the love of her life for 58 years and they loved to travel and entertain together. She developed a lifelong relationship with good friends centered around her church, Northside Baptist Church. In her later years, her grandkids and great grandkids became her drive to stay active. She loved her family deeply with all her heart and taught us how to live, love, create, laugh, dig in during the tough times, and be faithful to God above all. She was our beloved "Meme."
Survivors include her sons Jeff and wife Kim of Salisbury and Tommy and wife Melanie of Concord; daughters, Jan Roland and husband Brent of Graham and Renee Furman and husband David of Locust; sister, Betty Jean Hunter of Charlotte; nine grandchildren: Michelle (Frank), Stefanie (Jason), Chad, Kyle (Tori), Lauren (Ben), Brooke (Barrett), Kurt (Bryce), Cam and Alexa; and 14 great-grandchildren: Layna, Elyse, Noah, Jasper, Josie, Avery, Olivia, Dawson, Banks, Salem, Darcie, Henley, Anders, and Graham.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Concord Place for their love and care of June.
