Katherine Miller Ranson's Obituary
Katherine "Kitty" Miller Ranson, 85, of Huntersville died September 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 8, 1933 in Mecklenburg County to the late William Earl Ranson and Sarah Henderson Ranson and was granddaughter of the late William Joseph Ranson/Ellen Hunter Ranson & Robert Eugene "Bud" Henderson/Adeline Miller Henderson.
Kitty grew up in the small town of Huntersville the youngest & only girl of 5 children. Like her mother she leaned toward athletics & was captain of her basketball team for 2 years. Kitty was a born leader with a strong competitive take-charge spirit. After her graduation from Huntersville High, the last class to graduate before North Meck High opened, she attended Women's College in Greensboro, now UNCG. Soon after college graduation she began her career with Southern Bell, now AT&T. Ultimately she became an executive with several levels under her overseeing more than 60 people. Kitty was a trail blazer for female engineers & women being promoted to management positions. During her 30 years with Southern Bell she was well-respected, had great management skills, & was known to fearlessly look after her people. Although strict, she didn't expect any more work from her staff than she was willing to do herself.
After taking early retirement in the mid 1980's, she funneled her passion into being a strong advocate for her mother & later her brother Gene as their health declined. Kitty always maintained close contact with a large extended family & many friends. She was very generous with her time, talents, & treasures.
Kitty is survived by her brother, Robert Hunter Ranson, "Bobby", nephews W.E. "Bud" Ranson, III (Billie), Robert H Ranson, Jr (Jo), niece Julie Ranson Hester (Hal), great nieces Stacy Ryan (Shawn), Courtney Ranson (Johannes), great nephews Lacy Ranson, Bernie Ranson, Wil Hester (Katie), Bill Ranson (Alli), Luke Hester, 10 great-great nieces & nephews & many beloved cousins & friends.
