Katherine Sloan's Obituary
Katherine Blackley Sloan passed away January 7, 2019 after a wonderful 101 years and 10 months. She was born March 1, 1917 to Melvin Dorsey Blackley and Estelle Frye Blackley who preceded her in death.
Katherine married Edwin L. Sloan in 1940 and they moved to the Oakdale community to raise their 5 children.
She worked at Duke Power before her marriage then after the children were grown she worked in the Mecklenburg County Public Library system until her retirement.
Katherine was a member of Pleasant Grove UMC and was a very active member for most of her life.
Her memorial service will be at Pleasant Grove UMC Saturday, January 12 at 11am with a visitation reception following. Burial will be private in the church cemetery.
Katherine is survived by her daughters Katherine Helton of Layton, Utah, Polly Needham and husband Sandy of Lake Wylie, and Chris Ferrell of Huntersville, her sons Ed and wife Linda of Charlotte, and Tom Sloan of Mt Holly, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to Pleasant Grove UMC, 1915 Oakdale Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216.
