Kathryn Dickerson's Obituary
Kathryn Grey Clapp Dickerson, 47, of Huntersville passed away February 1, 2014 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House. Born in New Jersey to Joseph and Helen Clapp, she grew up in Greensboro, NC; Potomac , MD; and Akron, OH, and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. Following post graduate work at East Carolina to earn her teaching credentials, she was employed by Sylvan Learning Systems, becoming International Director of the Year in 1998. After starting her family, she taught in public schools in High Point, and most recently was Literacy Facilitator at Huntersville Elementary. Her license plate read “WORD GIRL”…as she loved the proper use of words. She also loved rooting for the Tar Heels, and any team one of her boys was playing for at any given time.
Kathryn grew up in a Christian home and her faith was her defining characteristic. She, her husband and children lived that faith daily. It was essential to her in dealing with the challenges of the cancer she fought bravely for nearly 5 years. She counseled many others as they fought cancer as well.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband Greer Dickerson; sons, Will Dickerson and Jonathan Dickerson of the home; step-son, Ryan of Greensboro; and sister, Amy Beatty and her son Jackie.
