Kenneth Helms' Obituary
Kenneth Ray Helms, 86, of Charlotte, NC, died February 11, 2023 at his home. He was born on May 1, 1936 in Charlotte, NC to the late Ralph and Beatrice Helms.
Kenneth worked for Piedmont Natural Gas for 45 years. He took great pride in knowing Charlotte and all the underground natural gas pipelines, "like the back of his hand". In addition to PNG, Kenneth enjoyed the work and experience that came from living on a family farm. Welding was a hobby that he enjoyed. Several metal, wagon wheel gates he created are still on the property. Kenneth was a life time member of the Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. He looked forward to working at the annual Mallard Creek Barbque and the fellowship shared. In his earlier years, he was a member of the Mallard Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Masonic Lodge and also served his country as a member of the US National Guard.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jean Helms; daughter, Teresa Helms Goodman of Banner Elk, NC; daughter-in-law, Kim Helms of Charlotte, NC; sister, Martha Jean Sigmon (Paul) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Stephanie (Garrett), Tucker, Hunter, Melissa (Zach) and Romulus.
He is preceded in death by his son, David Ray Helms and brother, Albert Helms.
Memorials may be made to Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Charlotte.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, February 15 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 10-11 AM prior. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
