Kenneth L. Sauers' Obituary
Mr. Kenneth Sauers, 85, of Mooresville, NC, formerly of Matthews, NC entered into his eternal rest in the early morning hours of February 21, 2011. “The strife is over—the battle won!”
The son of Mentor J. and Annie (Cornelius) Sauers, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, son, brother and friend to many. Born, in New Berlin, PA on December 18, 1925, his parents as well as 4 brothers and 3 sisters predeceased him: Willard (Cy), Marjorie Turner, Anna Martin, Robert, John W. (Sam), Kathryn Wittes and George (Lewie).
Kenny attended Lewisburg High School and won his letters in baseball, basketball and soccer. Later playing baseball for the West Branch League, he became well known for his ability in center field and a powerful switch hitter. He was then inducted into the United States Army in April 1944 and served in combat with the 661st Field Artillery Battalion in World War II. He was discharged in April of 1946. Kenny then spent 38 years working for Pennsylvania House Furniture, a job in which he took great pride.
Kenny married his childhood friend, high school sweetheart and loving wife, Ferne (Solomon) Sauers on June 16, 1947 in the New Berlin Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ). He enjoyed being with family and friends, whether it meant playing cards, bowling, fishing, building furniture, spending time at his place on Lake Tillery or talking. He never met a stranger.
He was devoted to Penn State football, Duke basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church, Matthews, NC; a charter member of the American Legion Post 957, New Berlin, PA; life member of Queen City Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Charlotte, NC; and former member of the Lions Club, New Berlin, PA.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in New Berlin, PA in early summer with internment in the family plot at New Berlin Cemetery.
