Kevin Grant Mitchell's Obituary
Grant Mitchell, 22, of Huntersville, NC, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Grant was born in Charlotte, NC. He was actively involved at Ignite Davidson, a community center for young adults with high-functioning autism. Grant had many friends especially at Ignite, and learned many skills that are not taught at traditional schools. Grant was a member of Hopewell High School’s Titanium Sound Marching Band and Orchestra. Grant went on to graduate from Hopewell High School, and then enrolled for classes at Central Piedmont Community College. Even though Grant was not a student at Lenoir-Rhyne University, because of his gorgeous music talents and unique playing style the school welcomed him to be part of their distinguished marching band. He absolutely loved this part of his journey, and was happy to make the drive back and forth whenever, wherever that stage granted the opportunity to perform. He absolutely loved the brotherhood that music gave him. Only those that perform can truly understand.
Grant had a passion for the saxophone, his music beautifully resonating all over the neighborhood. He was a staunch advocate for disability rights, extremely passionate about politics and was very “green in opinion”, and his love for reptiles and animals was unparalleled. His love for life could not be denied or questioned. He was a gentle, old soul. He will be sorely missed, but always remembered, he was unique, kind, and loving. There will never be another Kevin Grant Mitchell. We all love you, and will see you soon! Godspeed Grant.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerod Mitchell. Grant is survived by his loving parents, Kevin and Sam Mitchell; Paternal Grandparents, Glenn and Margaret Mitchell; Maternal Grandparents, John and Kay Anderson; and his Uncle Justin.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 7 at Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Grant Mitchell to the Autism Society of North Carolina, 8307 University Executive Park Dr #231, Charlotte, NC 28262.
