Kurt Hartfeil's Obituary
Kurt Hartfeil of Denver, NC formerly of Charlotte and various northern suburbs of Chicago, IL passed away at the age of 100.
Kurt was born on November 9, 1922 in Gruental Volhynia (Ukraine) in an agricultural community of German emigrants. He was forcibly conscripted into the German army during WW II and his regiment voluntarily surrendered to American soldiers who then handed them over to the Russians at the end of the war. He was held for five years after war end and was one of the very,very few survivors.
He immigrated to the U.S. from Germany with his family sponsored by Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Evanston, IL and became a proud citizen.
Kurt worked as a brick mason until his retirement; briefly owned a business...The Artis Beauty Salon; built his own house in Silver Lake, WI; and continued to work tiling and building fireplaces after retirement. He won awards for his skills as a hair stylist and also studied architecture.
Kurt loved to travel with his wife Elsa, visiting casinos, and developing friendships throughout the country.
Kurt was mostly devoted to his family with whom he loved to play games, especially card games. He is survived by his wife Elsa (Wolff); children Karl-Heinz, and Guenther (Karen Metzger); grandchildren Lauren Merryman (Gregg), Kurt (Lisa), Robin Jake Genwun Moy (Lily); and great grandchildren Fiona, Landon, and Margot; as well as his sister Gisela Stenger and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces still residing in Germany.
