Larry Blackwell's Obituary
Larry James Blackwell, 74 of Davidson died peacefully February 10, 2021 in Huntersville, NC.
Larry was born on November 27, 1946 to the late Marshall and Leeta Blackwell of Cerro Gordo, NC.
He grew up helping his family on the farm; making lunches, picking tobacco, strawberries and other crops. He was a member and sang in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church choir. After graduating from Cerro Gordo High School, Larry attended Kings College in Charlotte NC. He was working for Hunter Dairies as a milkman, when one of his customers suggested that he apply for a job at the printing ink company Wikoff Color Corporation (WCC). Working his way to being their Corporate Technical Manager or "Inkdoktor", Larry was known for his blunt and truthful attitude. After 43 years he retired from WCC.
Larry was loving, generous, hard working, charming, supportive, encouraging and had a great sense of humor. If by the end of the day, he could put a smile on someone's face, he was happy. He enjoyed drag/Nascar racing and was partial to #3. He would fish in lakes or at the beach and enjoyed reading, music--particularly Bob Seger and R&R, dogs, driving, working on cars or around the house, and cooking/grilling. He is well known amongst family and friends to have the best boiled peanuts, grilled meats--especially ribs/steaks, and fried fish. He loved sharing his food with others and couldn't resist sweets, especially ice cream, banana pudding, Greta's cheesecake and Nana's pound cake.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; daughters, Kristen and Rikki; son, Marshall; sister, Peggy; granddaughter, Maple; sons-in-law, Richard and Tyler; brother-in-law, Bill; ex-wife, Wendy; as well as many nephews, cousins, and life-long friends. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his infant son, Brandon; brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Sarah.
We know Larry is now more alive than ever, playing his harmonica for the Lord and in the good company of family and friends that have passed before him.
