Larry Phillips' Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Everette Phillips, known as Uncle Larry to so many, 89, of Huntersville died November 14, 2020 at his home. He was born on December 5, 1930 in Boone, NC to the late Rondah Burrell Phillips and Edna Blanche Lewis Phillips.
Larry served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Phillips or Uncle Larry went on to spend his life devoted to education and sharing his love of music. Mr. Phillips served as band director at N. Mecklenburg High School from 1957-1984. He served as music director at Derita Baptist, Huntersville First Baptist, Hopewell Presbyterian, First Presbyterian Church Kannapolis, and lastly Huntersville A.R.P, from 1999-2018. Larry was a member of Huntersville A.R.P. Church and was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his loving wife Dorothy Clark Phillips; son, David Lawrence Phillips and wife Rebecca of Charlotte; daughters, Debbie Phillips Wyatt and husband Jerry of Mooresville, Ellen Phillips Brewer and husband Michael of Social Circle, GA; sister, Joan Phillips Bingham; as well as 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Huntersville A.R.P. Church Missions Fund, PO BOX 316 Huntersville, NC 28070-316.
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, November 17 at Huntersville A.R.P. Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial.
