Larry Ward's Obituary
Larry Barton Ward, 73, died peacefully at home on 4/9/24 after a 2.5 year battle with glioblastoma. A Charlotte native born to Mary Kate Ward and Jack Henry Ward on 1/22/51, Larry married his high school sweetheart Jane Seay in 1974; June 22, 2024, would have been their 50th wedding anniversary. A graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, Larry was a huge Tar Heel fan who enjoyed lifelong bonds with his brothers from the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After graduating in 1973, Larry pursued a career at Martin Marietta Aggregates, where he retired after 40 years as the Vice President - General Manager of the Charlotte district. Larry worked hard and played hard, with a passion for live music and record collecting, golf, flounder fishing at the Outer Banks, and traveling to Isla Mujeres. He led a self-proclaimed wonderful life, and his legend will live on forever through all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Seay Ward, two children Tanya Ward Keeter (Buck) and Larry Barton Ward Jr (Kara), and his two loving sisters, Kay Rainwater and Brenda Blackwelder. He also leaves 7 grandchildren that loved him dearly.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church with reception to follow.
