Laura McPherson McCaskey's Obituary
Laura Jane McCaskey, of Cornelius, North Carolina, a brave, strong woman until the very end, passed away at age 56 on April 10, 2018. Laura was born on May 13, 1961, in Asheville, North Carolina, to Betty McPherson and the late Grover McPherson.
She and her brother David grew up in Winston-Salem, where she later met the love of her life, John McCaskey. They recently celebrated 28 years together. After graduating from Western Carolina University, Laura worked in sales and marketing for most of her business career, culminating in opening several of her own companies as an entrepreneur. Her greatest joy in life was her son Alex, and she was beyond proud that he just started college at Appalachian State University. Laura was treasured as a kind, loving, and generous friend. She enjoyed boating, listening to music, lounging at the beach, attending Carolina Panthers football games, running races and most of all playing with her beloved dog Spencer. Laura recently said of her trying times that “God does not promise clarity in tragic situations, but he does promise to be our rock and our fortress”.
She is survived by her husband, John McCaskey and son Alex, mother, Betty McPherson of Winston-Salem, brother, David McPherson and wife, Vanessa of Charlotte, “sister”/cousin, Kathy Crutchfield and husband, Brian of Boone, sister-in-law, Cindy Brown and husband, Bob of Boone, sister-in-law, Kim McCaskey of Los Angeles, California, sister-in-law, Sherrie McCaskey of McLean, Virginia, as well as a loving circle of cherished friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her funeral will take place at 2 PM on Friday April the 13th at Davidson United Methodist Church at 233 South Main Street, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
