Laura Pope Navarro's Obituary
Laura Navarro of Cornelius, NC went home to be with her Lord at home on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the age of 47.
A native of Madison, NC, Laura was the daughter of William (Patrick) and Bettie Pope. She earned a Bachelors in Spanish from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, followed by a Masters in Information Science at the University of North Texas.
After graduation she accepted a librarian position at the Bern Dibner Library of Science and Technology at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, NY where she met her husband, Anthony, in 1991. In 1999 they moved to Huntersville, where Laura enjoyed a career at IBM which lasted seventeen years, where she served as a team lead, manager, and other positions, as well as earning her MBA at Queens University, Charlotte.
Laura enjoyed reading, running, and serving her church, the Huntersville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. She served as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, Deacon, and sang in the choir. She also served her Presbytery for a term as President of Women’s Ministries.
Preceding her in death is her father, William (Patrick) Pope. Laura is survived by her husband, Anthony F. Navarro; her mother, Bettie (Virginia) Pope; sister, Nan Clegg; two nieces and eight nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to SheIsSafe.org, She Is Safe works to prevent, rescue and restore women and girls from abuse and exploitation in high risk places around the world, equipping them to build a life of freedom, faith and a strong future.
Visitation will be at James Funeral Home, Friday, May 13 from 6-8PM.
The funeral service will be held at Huntersville ARP Church, the following day, Saturday, May 14. The order of the day will be:
12:00 pm – Family meal
1:00 pm – Hymn Sing at Huntersville ARP Church. Join us in celebration of Laura’s life and faith with song as we will sing a number of Laura’s favorite hymns from 1:00-1:45.
2:00 pm – Funeral service
Rev. Lee Shelnutt will be officiating.
Interment will be private at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
