Lawrence "Larry" Conder, Sr.'s Obituary
Lawrence "Larry" Davis Conder, Sr., age 90, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on May 22nd, 2026 with family by his side.
Whenever anyone asked Larry how he was doing, he always answered "If I was any better, I couldn’t stand it." He sincerely meant those words. He lived a healthy, full life filled with travels all over the world, thousands of rounds of golf, day trips and dinners with friends far and wide, and hours upon hours of UNC basketball, including a trip to the 1982 Final Four Championship where he watched his beloved Tar Heels cut down the nets.
Larry was born in New Orleans, LA on July 11, 1935 to Wiley Eli Conder and Elizabeth Davis Conder. He moved to Charlotte as a young boy, graduating from Central High School in 1953. He then attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where he briefly played basketball as a walk-on for the Tar Heels and joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduating, marrying, serving in the U.S. Army, and living briefly in several North Carolina cities, Larry, with his first wife Lillyan and 4 young children, settled down in Davidson, North Carolina as managing partner of Conder, Setzer, Hoover & Associates insurance agency. After retiring, he explored new hobbies including stained glass work and horticulture, earning his Master Gardener certification. Both hobbies produced beautiful, lasting works of art. He was also very proud of being able to “shoot his age” in golf well into his late 80’s. Larry's positive attitude, adventurous spirit, and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, Lillyan Malloch Conder, and his brother, Wiley Elberon Conder.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pasquith Conder; his children, Wyndy (Gil), Andrea (Mike), Dave (Jane), and Clay (Laurie); 8 grandchildren; 2 nieces; 3 stepchildren; and many other loved ones and friends.
The family will honor Larry's life with a private memorial service at a later date.
No flowers, requested by the family. Donations in his memory may be made to https://www.uskidsgolffoundation.org.
