Lawrence Joseph Hauser's Obituary
Lawrence Joseph Hauser, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 after a brave battle with leukemia. Born June 24, 1945, in Chanute, Kansas to the late Robert Hauser and Blanche “Twig” Van Camp, Larry was a man of unwavering faith who loved his family and never met a stranger.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mark Catholic Church where he was a faithful Perpetual Adoration member, taught Adult RCIA classes and initiated the Room at the Inn homeless ministry in addition to his service as Parish Council Chairman.
Larry graduated from Syracuse University and then bravely joined the US Army during the Vietnam Era. After his time of service he spent a season working on the slopes of Breckenridge, CO before he attended Cornell University Hotel School.
Larry had a magnetic personality and touched the hearts of everyone he met. His passion for Syracuse sports ran deep, and he was the biggest fan of his children and many “adopted” children coaching countless sports teams and organizing events. He lived for family beach vacations and was known around Cornelius as the “man with the hotdog hat” after he retired and operated his dream, “The Dog Haus” hotdog cart.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sarah Hauser. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; their children, Matthew Hauser of Greenville, SC, Christine Mason (Tim) of Charleston, SC, Katherine Smith (Troy) of Cornelius, NC, and David Hauser (Crystal) of Black Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Brody and Calen Smith, Oliver and Tessia Mason, and Lila, Eleanor, Charles, William, Edward and Thomas Hauser; brother Jim (Liz) Hauser of East Rochester, NY, nephew Sam (Paige) Hauser and great nephews Sammy and Cooper Hauser of East Rochester, NY, nephews Zach Hauser of Raleigh, NC and Jackson Hauser of East Rochester, NY and cousin Kathy (Bruce) Carlson of Celebration, FL.
Larry’s passing leaves behind a void that can never be filled. However, his legacy of faith, dedication to his family, loyalty to his friends and service to others will continue to inspire and carry those that were lucky enough to know and adore him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2pm at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville, NC preceded by a visitation at 1pm in the Narthex. The interment will take place on Monday, November 27, 2:00 PM at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC with Military Honors.
