I only found out yesterday, Lee's birthday, that he had passed away. Lee and Ellen were my parents' neighbors on Wendover Road in Charlotte. They were wonderful friends and neighbors to my parents, Claude and Jessie Trapp, who were 25 years older than the Akeleys. They thought the world of the Akeley family, including the grandchildren who would also visit my parents, just two doors up the street. Even after my parents moved into a retirement community in Winston-Salem, their friendship continued. Lee visited my dad just days before dad's 100th birthday in 2005.
