Leon Franklin Bolick's Obituary
Leon Franklin Bolick died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2016 after a 5 year struggle with Lewey Body Dementia.
He was born in Charlotte, NC on March 21, 1944 to the late Robert and Edith Miller Bolick. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Elizabeth McKee Bolick; son Matt Bolick of Charlotte, NC; son Mark Bolick (Joanna) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Zak Bolick of Louisville, CO; Cole and Harper Bolick of Asheville, NC and brother Scott Bolick of Lincolnton, NC. He is also survived by his special in-laws Don and Phyllis Monteith and Joy Hilton, and many special nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister Janie Bolick Dellinger and special brother-in-law Mike Hilton. Leon graduated from West Mecklenburg High School (class of 1962) and received an Associates Degree from CPCC in Traffic Management. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era as an Air Policeman in Columbus, MS and also on the island of Guam. He was employed by Package Products for 21 years and Strapex for 18 years as Warehouse and Distribution Manager. Throughout his life Leon was always the “go to” person if you needed anything built, repaired or installed. He loved drawing plans and creating everything from a cradle for his grandchildren to his greatest accomplishment of his two story garage where he kept his prized 1966 Corvette. He loved to fish at the beach with his brother-in-law Mike Hilton and at the lake with his friend John Frunzar, and enjoyed many fun-filled adventures with his best friends Steve and Connie Baldwin. Leon had a love for photography and took classes at CPCC to learn as much as he could and at one time had a darkroom set up for developing his own prints. Leon was a quiet man who loved the Lord, his family, his friends and his church. He was slow to anger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A service to celebrate Leon’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. T. J. Thompson presiding. Burial will take place following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mt. Holly Huntersville Road, Charlotte, NC 28216.
