Leonard Ward's Obituary
Mr. Leonard Paul Ward, of Charlotte, N.C, passed away peacefully into the arms of his savior Jesus Christ on September 20th,2022 after a long period of declining health.
Mr. Ward was born on July 26th, 1939, in Whiteville, N.C. to the late Allen C. Ward and Winnie Lisenby. He was raised in Old Hundred, N.C and later West 4th St. in Charlotte, N.C. where he graduated from Old Harding High School, class of 1957. He attended Wingate College on football and baseball scholarships, graduating in 1959.
His early employment years were at Bouligny Company, Jake Rudisill Associates, and Agastat Corporation. He would go on to become founder and president of Ward Technical Sales Company, Inc., a well known and respected industrial distributorship, from its inception in 1972 until it’s successful sale upon his retirement in 2005.
Mr. Ward served in the N.C. National Guard. He was active as a coach in youth athletics as a member of Coulwood Optimist Club and the Lions Club. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed baseball, football and Nascar. He liked to travel; enjoyed playing the slots in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Tunica and Biloxi.
He was predeceased by wife Wynona N. Ward; survived by Sons Ronald C. Ward (Donna), Roger E. Ward (Becky), grandchildren Derek and Ashleigh Ward, great granddaughter Grace Ward. Also predeceased by wife Rebecca Bailey Holder, survived by stepson James Holder, grandchildren Zachary and Allison Holder, sisters Janice Bell, Eugenia Robinson and Chellie McDowell, brother Al Ward.
Funeral Services for Mr. Ward will be at 11:00AM Saturday Sept. 24th, 2022, at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, N.C., visitation beginning at 10:00AM. A graveside service will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens, Huntersville, N.C.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Humane Society of Charlotte.
The family of Mr. Ward would like to give thanks to the staff at Novant Health, Huntersville, Arbor Ridge, Huntersville, and Autumn Care, Cornelius. Thanks also to Ray Dudzinski and the Payton family. Special thanks to Hospice of Charlotte and nurse Joyce Davis.
From humble beginnings, Mr. Ward was a generous man who helped many.
