Hey Mary Lou, I am praying for and thinking of you and your family. I’m so sorry about Leslie. May God’s blessings and peace be with you. ❤️
I'm so saddened to learn of the loss of Less. I met Les when I became a Master Gardener. He was always so kind to me and seeing him at the meetings was always a pure joy. He will most certainly be missed.
Dear Mary Lou and family, Les and I became fast friends through Master Gardeners. He was always smiling and eager to help everyone. He was a great help to me when I arrived with a full car of donations for our freebie tables. He helped me set the items up and keep them organized. He helped me also set up the plant swaps when we had them. At the end of the meetings he hung around to help me load up my car with leftover items.
He was such a wonderful friend to me and everyone else in our group. When he would walk in the door with vases of his beautiful Zinnias for door prizes many of us would want to hover around him to admire the lovely blooms. They were coveted as prizes as were the many plants and seeds from his garden. We loved his pumpkins, too!
He amazed us with your wonderful peach cobblers, green beans and more that he had grown and prepared with you. He was such a humble man and a dear heart. He gave me bags and bags of Zinnia seeds to use in our school projects over the years.
He gave of himself generously and kindly. He was a fine example of a strong disciple of Christ.
As others have said he will be greatly missed. His gentle spirit will live on in our hearts and minds.
In Christ,
E.J. McGee

Dear Mary Lou, Brice, and Emily,
Time and distance have not diminished my memories, respect, and cherished friendship with Leslie and your family. Always a caring, compassionate listener, he took sincere interest in the well being of others. I looked forward to chatting with him at Army Reserve drill and he always shared good advice for career, gardening, and life!
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I share your tears and celebrate the life of a wonderful person I was so fortunate to know. I cannot be with you Monday, I wish I could, but I send my heartfelt sympathy from over the ocean.

I had the pleasure of spending an educational and pleasant afternoon several summers ago interviewing Les for a Spotlight article in the Master Gardeners' newsletter, Share The Buzz. We hiked all over his property tasting grapes and I marveled at the vastness and variety of his garden. He could have fed an army. After our hike we were joined by his lovely wife for some iced tea and conversation. A very satisfying afternoon and a rare privilege for me. He will be missed.

I knew Les from volunteering with him at Mecklenburg Extension Master Gardener Volunteers. He was a kind and generous soul. He loved to bring a covered dish to our luncheons and it was always absolutely delicious. he will be deeply missed.
